Kaap Noord is very well situated on the north side of Amsterdam city center, only a stones throw away from Amsterdam Central Station and close to the highway A10, in a part of Amsterdam Noord which is rapidly developing. At the moment a new residential and business district area, named Overhoeks is being completed. When finished Overhoeks will harbour 2200 houses and 130.000m2 of offices and cultural facilities - the EYE Film institute Nederland (new Film museum) has already opened.

More and more companies like Shell, MTV and HEMA have seen the opportunities in this new development and have already settled in the area. The international Dutch/British energy and petrochemical company Shell has a long history with this part of Amsterdam. Shell has a long history in Amsterdam. In 1914 Royal Shell Laboratory Amsterdam was founded in this area which is now called Overhoeks. And in 2009 the new technology centre (STCA) was officially launched. MTV recently opened their European HQ on another part of the northern banks of the IJ River, close to Kaap Noord. HEMA opened her new headquarters in the beginning of 2011.

On both sides of the river a lot of new developments are being finished or planned to be finished in the next few years. The Central Public Library, Het Muziekgebouw aan het IJ, Het Conservatorium and the Palace of Justice are only a few examples of the recent developments.
